Sommer-OL 1992 ble arrangert i Barcelona i Spania fra 25. juli til 9. august 1992. Dette var første gang Spania arrangerte olympiske leker.

SUS hadde flest deltagere i sin tropp, og ble best med 45 gullmedaljer og 112 medaljer totalt. Linda Andersen ble den første norske kvinnen som vant gullmedalje i et sommer-OL da hun vant klassen europajolle i seiling. Jon Rønningen vant sin andre olympiske gullmedalje på rad i bryting. Norge vant også fire sølv- og én bronsemedalje.

Valg av vertsby

Barcelona ble valgt ved avstemning under den internasjonale olympiske komités 91. sesjon i Lausanne i Sveits 17. oktober 1986.[2][3]

Lett tungvekt (82,5 kg), menn 		 Ibragim Samadov (EUN) DSQ −1 −1 Vektløfteren Ibragim Samadov, som representerte SUS, tok opprinnelig bronse i Lett tungvekt (82,5 kg). Under medaljeseremonien nektet han å bøye seg framover for å motta medaljen. Han rakk etter hvert ut hånden og tok i mot medaljen, men gikk så ned fra seierspallen, slapp medaljen fra seg og forlot medaljeseremonien. Den internasjonale olympiske komité (IOK) diskvalifiserte ham og fratok ham medaljen. Til tross for at Samadov beklaget sin oppførsel dagen etter, sto IOK på sin beslutning og han ble i tillegg utestengt på livstid av Det internasjonale vektløfterforbundet (IWF). Bronsemedaljen ble ikke omfordelt.[42]
