Karen Uhlenbeck

Karen Keskulla Uhlenbeck (født 24. august 1942 i Cleveland i Ohio) er en amerikansk matematiker. Hun er professor emerita ved matematisk institutt ved University of Texas i Austin. I 2019 ble hun tildelt Abelprisen «for hennes nybrottsarbeid innen geometriske partielle differensialligninger, gaugeteori og integrerbare systemer, og for den fundamentale innflytelsen av hennes arbeid innen analyse, geometri og matematisk fysikk.»

Hun tok mastergrad i 1966 og doktorgrad i 1968 ved Brandeis University. I 1983 ble hun prosessor ved Universitetet i Chicago, før hun i 1987 fikk et professorat ved Universitetet i Texas hun har hatt siden.^{[trenger referanse]}

Uhlenbeck ble en ekspert på instantoner, som er en gren i matematikken som beskriver hvordan overflater oppfører seg i firedimensjonal romtid. Sammen med Dan Freed utgav hun i 1984 læreboka Instantons and 4-Manifolds

Hun er æresdoktor ved universitetene Harvard (2007), Princeton (2012), Illinois (2000), Michigan (2004) og Ohio (2001).
