&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Okies&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; var en amerikansk betegnelse på en gruppe økonomiske internflyktninger som dro fra [[Oklahoma]] til [[California]] i 1930-årene. De dro fra hjemstaten på grunn av den økologiske katastrofen &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Dust Bowl]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; som sammen med [[den store depresjonen]] i landet gjorde levekårene svært vanskelige. Veien mot vest var fortrinnsvis [[route 66]]. Om lag 15 % av Oklahomas befolkning brøt opp. &lt;br /&gt;

I California måtte de konkurrere med mange nyankomne fattige latinamerikanere og filippinere om daglønnet arbeid i landbruk og landbruksindustri. &lt;br /&gt;

Selve uttrykket &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Okie&amp;#039;&amp;#039; om folk fra Oklahoma kan imidlertid spores i bruk allerede fra 1907, men da uten de sosiale konnotasjoner ordet fikk senere. Uttrykket &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Okie&amp;#039;&amp;#039; er noen tiår etter depresjonen var over atter blitt et nøytralt uttrykk på engelsk for folk fra Oklahoma.&lt;br /&gt;
