'''The Kinks''' var et [[Storbritannia|britisk]] [[rock]]eband som ble dannet av brødrene [[Ray Davies|Ray]] og [[Dave Davies]], og [[Pete Quaife]], som alle vokste opp i [[Muswell Hill]] nord i [[London]]. Bandet regnes som et av de mest innflytelsesrike i 1960-årene. De tre hadde spilt sammen lenge under ulike band-navn, da [[Mick Avory]] kom med januar 1964, og gruppen tok navnet The Kinks. Gruppens endelige gjennombrudd kom med sangen «[[You Really Got Me]]», som toppet den engelske singelhitlisten senere det året. Opp igjennom 1960-tallet fulgte ytterligere 13 topp-10 singler, noen av de mest kjente er «All Day and All of the Night», «Dedicated Follower of Fashion», «[[Sunny Afternoon]]», «Waterloo Sunset», «Dead End Street» og «Lola».

The Kinks (Ray Davies, Dave Davies, Pete Quaife og Mick Avory) ble innlemmet i [[Rock and Roll Hall of Fame]] i 1990. 

The Kinks var aktive fra januar 1964 til juni 1996. Medlemmene av gruppen var da de spilte inn sitt hittil siste album ''Kinks to the Bone'': [[Ray Davies]], [[Jim Rodford]], [[Bob Henrit]], [[Ian Gibbons]] og [[Dave Davies]].

På [[1960-tallet]] ble de fleste av bandets singler hitlåter. Ray Davies regnes som en av rockhistoriens beste låtskrivere. Bandet har også inspirert en rekke band og artister, deriblant (The Who) [[The Ramones|Ramones]], [[The Jam]], [[Van Halen]], [[Blur]], [[The Kooks]], [[Arctic Monkeys]], [[T. Rex (band)|T. Rex]], [[The Pretenders]], [[Babyshambles]], [[The Lambrettas]], [[David Bowie]], [[Elvis Costello]] og [[Paul Weller]].

Tidligere medlemmer av The Kinks startet i 1994 bandet The Kast Off Kinks, sammen med Dave Clarke (ex. Noel Redding Band m.m. - må IKKE forveksles med Dave Clark fra Dave Clark Five). The Kast Off Kinks turnerer jevnlig i Storbritannia, og har (i ulike varianter) spilt seks ganger i Norge: Elm Street i Oslo oktober 2010, [[Fredrikshalds teater]] i Halden august 2011, [[John Dee Live Club & Pub|John Dee]] i Oslo juni 2013, Fredrikshalds teater i Halden august 2013, Støperiet i Tønsberg juni 2014 og [[Brygga Kultursal Halden]] 25. august 2017. 

Øyvind Hartmann, Kid Jensen og Dag Eriksen (ex. Terje Fjærn, Septimus m.m.) har vært Kast Off Kinks' faste blåserekke siden konserten på Elm Street i Oslo. De har deltatt ved de største anledningene, som Meltdown-festivalen i London 2011, de årlige The Kinks Fan Club Convention i London og The Dutch Kinks Fan Meeting i Nederland, samt på konsertene i Norge.
