'''Canterbury-York-kontroversen''' var en langvarig konflikt i middelalderens [[England]] mellom erkebispedømmene [[erkebispedømmet Canterbury|Canterbury]] og [[erkebispedømmet York|York]]. Det begynte kort tid etter [[den normanniske erobringen av England]] i 1066 og varte i flere tiår.

Erkebiskopen av Canterbury var blitt den ledende kirkeleder i England. Erkebiskopen av York på sin side hevdet jevnlig å være likeverdig erkebiskopen av Canterbury, som ikke godtok dette og ønsket administrativt overherredømme over York og dermed hele den nordengelske kirkeprovins.<ref>[https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z9g2ycw/revision/1 BBC: The Church in Norman England]</ref>  I 1127 ble tvisten for det meste avgjort i Yorks favør, idet dens erkebiskoper ikke trengte å underkaste seg Canterburys styre.
