'''Amfipoder''' (Amphipoda, gresk ''amphi'' og ''podos'' - flere/dobbel fot) er en artsrik [[Orden (biologi)|orden]] av [[storkrepser]].

De fleste artene er flattrykte fra sidene, og flertallet lever i [[Sjøvann|saltvann]] (marine), men de er også vanlige i [[ferskvann]] eller i terrestriske miljøer (på landjorden). Noen få arter lever i [[symbiose]] med [[maneter]]. De mest tallrike underordenene er [[Senticaudata]] og [[Gammaridea]], mens de drøyt 230 artene i underorden [[Hyperiidea]] (hyperide amfipoder) normalt har en kroppsbygning som avviker, eksempelvis [[manetloppe]] som lever i norske farvann. Underordenen [[Caprellidea]] omfatter blant annet [[hvallus]] og [[spøkelseskreps]], som også har et klart avvikende utseende. Det finnes totalt minst 9725 arter av tanglopper, hvorav minst 500 arter lever i farvannene rundt [[Norge]] og 6 arter i norsk ferskvann.<ref name="adb_taxon" />

Amfipodene er små krepsdyr, typisk kroppsstørrelse er 2–60 [[millimeter|mm]], men noen arter helt opp til 140&nbsp;mm. Det finnes også sjeldnere dypvannskjemper som kan bli opptil 30 [[centimeter|cm]]. Tangloppene er flattrykte fra siden og mangler ryggskjold, slik som [[lopper]] (derav navnet). Kroppen er delt i tre om lag like store deler - hodet, hovedkroppen og halepartiet, som ofte er leddet. Mange arter kan gjøre små hopp gjennom å slå med halen, derav navnet. De skilles fra [[isopoder]] som er dorsoventralt flattrykte, det vil si flate ovenfra og ned, og amfipoder svømmer derfor ofte sidelengs. Det vitenskapelige navnet «Amfipoda» (av [[gresk]] ''amphi'' – flere (forskjellige/dobbel/mange, og ''podos'' – bein) viser til at beina er inndelt i svømmebein og gangbein slik som hos [[reker]], og noen arter har også frambein med gripeanordninger eller «klør». Artsbestemmelse kan være svært komplisert og kreve bruk av mikroskop eller genetikk.

== Levevis ==

De fleste av artene lever i havet og spiser mest dødt organisk materiale på ulike dyp. Det store flertallet arter er bunndyr (bentiske), de kryper gjerne på [[hydroider]] eller [[Tang (alge)|tang]]. Noen arter er frittflytende i vannsøylen (pelagiske), mens et fåtall er parasitter på andre dyr.<ref name="Erling Svensen 2014"/> Flere arter i slekten ''[[Gammarus]]'' lever blant tang i fjæra og på strender, og noen arter lever blant strandet tang på strandvoller. Tanglopper er viktig føde for [[fisk]], ikke minst [[marflo]] som gir grunnlag for flere ferskvannsfisk.

De marine amfipodene kan deles i to grupper, de ''pelagiske'' (frittsvømmende) og de ''bentiske'' (lever på bunnen). De pelagiske amfipodene er viktige som næring for [[sjøfugler|sjøfugl]], [[fisker|fisk]] og [[sjøpattedyr]], og de er en viktig komponent i [[dyreplankton]]et. Den mest vanlige gruppa i planktonet er [[Hyperiidea|hyperiinene]].

Hvis en sammenligner med andre krepsdyrgrupper som [[hoppekreps]] og [[isopoder]], er det forholdsvis få [[Parasittisme|parasittiske]] amfipoder. ==Utbredelse==

Omtrent 20&nbsp;% av amfipodene lever i ferskvann, eller andre vannforekomster utenom havet. De er mest tallrike i [[Arktisk klima|kjølige]] og [[Temperert klima|tempererte]] strøk. Spesielt mange lever underjordisk, eller i [[Gammel innsjø|gamle tempererte innsjøer]]; i [[tropene]] er de derimot sjeldne. De underjordiske artene er spesielt tallrike i [[Mellom-Europa|Mellom-]] og [[Sør-Europa]], [[Nord-Amerika]] og [[Australia]]. I våre nordlige farvann lever tre underordener - [[Gammaroidea]], [[Hyperiidea]], og [[Caprellidea]] - men det klare flertallet av arter i norske farvann tilhører undergruppen [[Gammarina]]. Pelekreps eller pelelus kan gjøre skade på treverk i havet. En fremmed art - ''[[Gammarus tigrinus]]'' - er i ferd med å trenge inn i nordlige farvann i [[Østersjøen]] og [[Nordsjøen]] hvor den kan fortrenge andre arter.

Alle terrestriske amfipoder tilhører familien [[Talitridae]], og de finnes kun i beskyttede, fuktige habitater. De lever i strølag og jord, og i [[Fiordland]] på [[New Zealand]] finnes de også i mose oppe i trekronene. Terrestriske amfipoder finnes på de sørlige landmassene, noe som tyder på at de kommer fra det gamle superkontinentet [[Gondwana]]. De er utbredt i New Zealand og [[Australia]], de [[subantarktis]]ke øyene, øyene i [[Stillehavet]], [[Japan]], [[Sørøst-Asia]], [[Afrika]], [[India]] og [[Mellom-Amerika]]. Taksonomien til krepsdyrene er komplisert og under regelmessig revisjon ettersom ny innsikt vinnes.
