'''Alan White''' (1949–2022) var en britisk [[trommeslager]], best kjent som medlem av [[progressiv rock]]-bandet [[Yes]] og for sitt samarbeide med blant andre [[John Lennon]], [[George Harrison]] og [[Ginger Baker]]. 

White begynte å spille [[piano]] som seksåring, men byttet senere til trommer. Han spilte offentlig for første gang som 13-åring. På 1960-tallet spilte han i en lang rekke band, og ble ofte brukt som [[studiomusiker]]. Hans første smak av suksess kom i 1967 sammen med ''The Alan Price Set'', og i 1968 da han ble med i ''Ginger Baker's Airforce''.

== Gjennombrudd ==
Gjennombruddet kom da han i 1969 ble kontaktet av John Lennon som ville ha ham med i ''[[Plastic Ono Band]]''. Konserten ''[[Live Peace in Toronto 1969|Live Peace in Toronto]]'' ble spilt inn og utgitt samme år. 

Han spilte også trommer på albumet ''[[John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band]]'' i 1970, og senere samme år ble George Harrison gjort oppmerksom på Whites talenter, og fikk ham med på sitt album ''[[All Things Must Pass]]''. Han spilte også på Lennons soloalbum ''[[Imagine (album)|Imagine]]'' og singelen ''«[[Instant Karma!]]»'' i 1971.

== Trommeslager i Yes ==
I 1972, mens White var med [[Joe Cocker]] på turné, fikk han en invitasjon fra Yes om å erstatte [[Bill Bruford]], som nettopp hadde forlatt bandet til fordel for [[King Crimson]]. Bare tre dager etter sitt første møte med [[Jon Anderson]] og [[Chris Squire]], spilte han på sin første Yes-konsert. Han lærte seg de viktigste låtene til Yes, inkludert det komplekse albumet ''[[Close to the Edge]]'', på den korte tiden. White og Yes ga hverandre en frist på tre måneder for å finne ut om de passet sammen, og White var medlem av bandet fra da til sin død i 2022.

== Prosjekter utenfor Yes ==
Alan White ga ut sitt eneste soloalbum, ''Ramshackled'', i 1976. I tillegg til trommene, var White god på piano, og bidro til komposisjon av Yes-låter. Han bodde sine siste år i [[Seattle]] i [[USA]], der han hadde flere prosjekter på gang, blant annet bandene ''White'' og ''[[Circa:]]''. Han spilte på ''Circa:''s første album før han sluttet i bandet.

== Turneer og nye album med Yes ==
Fra høsten 2008 til februar 2009 var han opptatt med turneen ''In the Present'' sammen med Yes. Denne turneen ble etter to måneder avlyst på grunn av at Chris Squire ble innlagt på sykehus, og ble operert i et ben. White medvirket på en konsert til minne om John Lennon den [[18. april]] 2009 sammen med blant andre en friskmeldt Squire. White var i store deler av 2009 og 2010 på turné sammen med Yes. Høsten 2010 gikk han og resten av bandet i platestudio for å spille inn låter til det nye albumet ''[[Fly from Here]]''.
