''America First'' ble brukt som slagord både av demokratiske og republikanske politikere. Etter at [[første verdenskrig]] brøt ut, brukte den demokratiske president [[Woodrow Wilson]] ''America First'' for å beskrive sin nøytralitetspolitikk. America First-komiteen (AFC), med [[Charles Lindbergh]] som den mest kjente talsperson, var en [[Interesseorganisasjon|pressgruppe]] som førte en kampanje imot at USA skulle involvere seg i [[andre verdenskrig]].
